Need a place to come and just relax? Then the Community Center is your place. We have a “at ease” atmosphere where you can watch television on our 48-inch Plasma Screen TV, sit down and do some quiet studying, or just read the newspaper. The Community Center also offers “internet service.” We have five computers set up for those of you who are on temporary duty or anyone just wanting to surf the net.

The Community Center offers a place where you can come and have a meeting; anything from Top 4, Child Development CPR classes, or retiree meetings. We offer a separate room with a meeting table and you can provide refreshments if wanted.

We have an available room to you for your special event; these may range from a Wedding Receptions, Office Parties, and Thanksgiving Dinners, to Pin-On Ceremonies. 

Dog Obedience
Instructor: Tom Armstrong
Class is open to all breeds of dog’s three months and older. Mr. Armstrong will teach the basics on dog obedience, from what type of collar is needed to controlling the animal when other animals are around. Mr. Armstrong stresses, the tone of voice should always be happy and always praising. “Nothing negative with the voice.” He teaches how to correct the animal correctly, and always be consistent.

Mr. Armstrong has been instructing dog obedience for over 30 years.The classes are held out at the “ Freedom Park ” on Thursdays for 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. 
The cost of the class is $35 for a 7-week course. Kempo Karate
Instructor: Sensei Scott Charette
Scott Charette is a 1st Degree black belt and a Nevada State Champion. His classes are held at the Community Center on Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for ages 6 – 12, and age 13 - adult classes are held from 6:30 – 7:30.
Cost of the class is $30 per month.

Tae Kwon Do
Instructor: Luis Castro
Sensei Castro has vast expertise in Martial Arts. Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday 4:45 – 5:45 for ages 5-12 and 5:45 – 6:45 for age 13 – adult.
Cost of the class is $30 per month.

Hula, Tahitian and Maori Style Dance
Instructor: Doreen Baclayon
The Hula is a dance that tells a story while keeping you physically fit. Classes are 1 hour and held on Monday’s and Wednesday’s at 6:30 p.m.
Cost of the class is $30 per month.

Ballet and Tap, Jazz Dance Dance for Youth
Instructor: Michelle McConnell
Classes are held on Friday for Ballet/Tap, ages 3-4, 3:15 – 4:00; Ballet/Tap, ages 4-5, 4:00 – 5:00; Advanced Ballet/Tap, ages 7 & up, 5:00 – 6:00, and Jazz, ages 7 – 18, 6:00 – 7:00

Guitar and Bass Guitar Lessons
Instructor: John Dougherty
Individual Lessons for 30 minutes are $25 or group lessons for a minimum of five students, are $13 per student for 45 minutes. If guitar rental is needed, you are able to rent from Family Music Center for $15 per month.

Private Piano Lessons
Instructor: Theresa Spinola
Our piano lessons consist of a in 30 minute increments, starting at 4:00 with the last session at 7:00. Classes are conducted Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Ms. Spinola has been teaching piano for over 10 years and is an established pianist for the Nellis Air Force Base Chapel. Piano lessons are an on going class with the cost $15 per individual session.

Youth GymnasticsInstructor: Go For It Gymnastics Inc
All classes are conducted on Mondays; two separate 30 minute sessions are held for ages 18 months – 2, 9:00 – 9:30, 9:30 – 10:00, fee is $25 per month, and separate 45 minute classes for ages 3-4, 10:00 and 10:45, cost is $30 per month

Kung Fu
Instructor: Lani Lum
Lani Lum has been working on the base for over 5 years and has studied his entire life. Mr. Lum’s classes are held on Saturday’s for ages 6 and up from 10 p.m. to noon. 
Cost of the class is $30.00

The Community Center also sponsors several programs: 

Congressional Award Program – The Congressional Award Program recognizes young people 14 to 23 years of age for achieving individual goals in four program areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness and Expedition/Exploration. Why not join thousands of young people already earning the congressional award. It’s for you! Call the Youth Center, Cindy Berg, at (702) 652-9307 for ages 14 to 17 and Mr. Bob Garcia, (702) 652-5014 for ages 18 to 23. to register in this program. For more information or visit the website at www.congressionalaward.com.

Base Swap Meet – This activity is held once a month on a Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the front parking lot of building 625. The stall rental is $10 each. 

Anuual events include:

Missoula Children’s Theater – The Missoula Children’s Theatre is an annual Air Force International Tour Program. It is an open audition for grades 1 thru 12 with over 50 roles available for our local children. Rehearsals are normally conducted Monday – Thursday, with a free performance on Friday & Saturday at the base theater.

Family & Teen Talent Show – It’s that time of year…Show us what kind of “Talent” your family has. The event is held in late October or early November. There are 15 categories the family and teens can compete in (youth ages are 3-18). This event brings out the best in families. It is not only fun, but the winners, via tape, compete Air Force Wide.

Rent-A- Santa Suit – When the holidays are upon us and you wonder where to get that all important “Santa or Elf Suit,” the Community Center is the place to go. This is a great way to enhance your Christmas party or put a spark in your little one’s eyes. Having a Santa Claus and an Elf at a party is always a hit. They all include the jacket, pants, boot covers, gloves, wig, hair, beard and hat. (You have to provide your own padding.) Suit rentals are from late November until Christmas. Prices: Santa Suits $20.00 per day and Elf Suits $10.00 per day

Tops In Blue – What an extravaganza. These elite Air Force entertainers perform annually at Nellis AFB. The Community Center is responsible for organizing their visit; their exciting, crowd pleasing shows have been held both at on and off base venues. Tops In Blue is such a great tradition that we all look forward to every year.
